Without a doubt The Graveyard Book is a gothic novel, with touches of the tragic (dead family), horror (murder), romance, and supernatural (ghosts, ghouls, vampires, etc). However, unlike the typical gothic novel, Bod receives a happy ending. Similar to most of his works, this novel contains elements of the macbre, in the opening scene the reader is greeted by a triple homicide of an innocent family, and continues the story of a baby growing up alongside the dead.
